Mirandus is an open-world sandbox fantasy RPG in development at Gala Games

Hi, my name is Bill and I’m a designer, engineer, entrepreneur, crypto investor and gamer. I recently purchased a Founder’s Node on the Gala Network and I wanted to share some background on the company, the vision, and my motivations for supporting the network through node ownership.

What is Gala Games?

Gala Games is a decentralized gaming company founded in 2018 with the primary goal of giving ownership and a voice to gamers through a blockchain-based gaming ecosystem. They currently have one game released with several more in the pipeline.

Who is behind Gala Games?

The team behind Gala Games includes Eric Schiermeyer — the co-founder of Zynga, Wright Thurston — one of the first major miners in the cryptocurrency space and holder of multiple patents on blockchain technology, and Michael McCarthy — the Creative Director behind viral games such as Farmville 2.

What is a Founder’s Node?

Simply put, a Founder’s Node is a piece of software, that you can run on your own computer or a Virtual Private Server (VPS), that supports the decentralized gaming ecosystem that is the Gala Network. These nodes run on a Proof-of-Availability system right now which means that if the node is online for at least 6 hours per day you earn network rewards. Founder’s Node operators earn GALA cryptocurrency daily with a chance of also being rewarded NFTs for current and upcoming games on the Gala Network.

Who can run a Founder’s Node?

Right now operating a Founder’s Node is open to everyone. However, there are a limited number of Founder’s Node licenses available from Gala Games. The total number that will ever be available is 50,000 and more than half of them have been licensed already.

Why did I buy a Founder’s Node?

I’ve been a gamer for many years and although I have some great gaming memories that will last a lifetime I really have nothing tangible to show for the countless hours I’ve spent gaming. I’ve acquired extremely rare items in games, I’ve grinded the best gear, I’ve been the leader of a large guild, I’ve been a revered hero, and I’ve been a notorious villain. I’ve amassed virtual wealth, experienced great battles, and gone on epic quests. However, that’s all dust in the wind now. I’ve long dreamed of a gaming ecosystem where you keep what you kill.

When I first started to seriously look into blockchain technology years ago one of my first thoughts was how this was bound to take hold in gaming economies and give real tangible ownership to gamers. It was an exciting thought then but these concepts were still at an infancy stage. Fast-forward to 2021 and the recent explosion of crypto adoption by mainstream companies and the NFT craze just getting started, the excitement is now 100-fold!

So why Gala Games and the Gala Network? I honestly don’t know if this will be a runaway success or a crash-and-burn failure. What I do know is that I want to be a part of the early adopters of blockchain gaming and I want to support those who are hard-at-work making the dream a reality. Gala has shown they can execute with the launch of their first game Town Star which can be considered the blockchain cousin of Farmville. No surprise here when looking at the team behind Gala Games. They also have an open-world sandbox fantasy RPG in the works called Mirandus which is actually more to my taste. Both of these games already offer a plethora of NFTs you can own right now. Another game in the works is Fortified which will be a PVP-based tower defense game set in a fantastical medieval world.

Ultimately though the Gala Network is poised to support an entire ecosystem of games where node operators and GALA token holders will drive the direction though distributed voting mechanisms common to blockchain communities.

If the future of gaming where players own what they earn and share in the power to influence the direction of the games they’re passionate about has you excited then look into acquiring a Founder’s Node while they’re still available.
